Macy's Prepares for Thanksgiving Parade and Christmas

After a long day serving at the Manhattan temple, Sister Kathy Thompson, widow, asked me to accompany her to the famous Macy store on 42nd street on Friday night.   Steve was not the least bit interested, so he remained home and we rode the sub to 42nd street, crossed the street and advanced to Macy's.  There, the Christmas windows were unveiled --Snoopy, Peanuts and Lucy and crew in preparation for the Macy's famous Thanksgiving Parade to be held next week.  Enjoy the photos.

The theme this year is Snoopy, Peanuts, Lucy and the whole gang.  All the characters below were animated in the windows.

Walking through the front doors, the main floor was alighted with crystal chandeliers and thousands of white lights.  Christmas is definitely on its way.  On my...can it be only 5 weeks away?

This is the largest Macy's in the world--9 1/2 stories (Messazine) included.

Kathy Thompson, fellow widow and a kid at heart, is insisting that she will be the first to sit on Santa's lap next week.  The 8th floor  theme as "Miracle on 34th Street" will introduce a Santa land walkway before advancing to Santa.

This Macy's has even preserved the original wooden escalator steps in this part of the store.

Of course, we spent the most time on the 8th floor looking at all the Christmas trappings/trees/ornaments,  most on sale for 50% off (most were  made in China)!

After all the "window shopping," I bought a $6 ornament 'New York' ornament to place on our small apartment credenza.  This will be a treeless/non-decorated year, but the joy and anticipation of Christmas remains.
