Memorable visit to the Payson Temple, Friday, August 28, 2015

We experienced a "little bit of heaven" last Friday as we visited the Payson LDS Temple in Payson, UT, and performed sacred ordinances.  As Uncle Ross stated, "it is the closest thing to Solomon's Temple" in grandeur and beauty that he has ever seen!  As a graduate in architecture from Rice University, that's saying a lot.  Truly the interior is exquisite and a work of art from the baptist to the celestial room, but the peace and tranquility felt inside equals all temples.  It's interior was specifically designed to reflect the historical heritage and pioneer flavor of the area such as an apple motif found throughout in the carved carpet and upholstered chairs, quilting patterns, etc.  Atop the dome of the temple stands Angel Moroni reminding all that the Savior will come from the East.   Enjoy a few photos below... A Farewell to Steve's Siblings...

Farewells seem to center around good food and warm friendships.  Bona Vita Italian Bistro, located at Traverse Mountain, found us with Steve's two sisters and husbands, e.g. Carole and Sam Cowley and Kathy and Bob Stahmann, plus Joann Cook Leary (sister-in-law) and newly-wedded husband Ed Leary.  We all enjoyed the excellent cuisine of Italian pasta, but were too well fed to move on to ice cream (a Cook tradition) which indicates we are all getting a bit older and watching our waistlines more!  Farewell to our sweet siblings and spouses--they are always such a support to us and the entire family.

Catching up on old times...

Thank you, Gary and Lora Lee, for a fun evening at Market Street Grill eating and reminiscing of fun times past and our Houston roots. Your generosity is always overwhelming!

You both are our inspiration of dedication to the Lord and perseverance.  Enjoy your respite and family before the Lord calls you to serve again!  Where next?

Mission Farewell-River Second Ward Sacrament Meeting

Today, August 23, was a special day for us!  Several weeks ago, Steve and I were asked by Bishop Michael Degn to report in sacrament meeting in our home ward, River 2nd ward, regarding our recent return from  serving an inner-city mission.  We were well supported by family members, e.g. Wayne (brother) and Sally Viehweg, and five of our eight children and spouses, e.g. Janie and Mark Ogletree, Christy Watkins, Matt and Trista Cook, David and Sarah Cook and Joey and Ang Cook accompanied by their children (22 grandchildren).  We primarily spoke on service (Mosiah 1-5), giving a brief overview of our inner-city missionary experience.  Hindsight is 20/20 as they say...and it was a spiritual yet heart-wrenching experience reviewing our service, our former close friendships, our personal growth and continual prayers that we will reunite with many of these dear friends in the celestial kingdom.  We shall always treasure our service and association there.

In keeping with a desire to keep the sabbath day "low key," afterward sacrament meeting, we gathered at Joey and Ang's home in North Salt Lake and feasted on a simple dinner of burritos, fruit and ice cream, of course.  What a choice experience for the adults to have a casual, informal afternoon and share experiences as summer came to a close (children started school the next day) and families departed for home, e.g. Burley ID, South Jordan, etc..  Truly, our children are the "jewels in our crown!"
